After the wedding in Florence and a delay in Madrid, we finally made it to Barcelona!
We arrived very late to our new home in Sant Gervasi-Galvany area. We were tired, but happy to start our new adventure.
The first few weeks were basically trying to get adjusted, sign up for internet, getting our mobiles changed to work properly, and find some local grocery stores that sell organic or as they call it here Ecologica. We soon discovered that getting things done around here took much longer than back home. We didn't have our ID cards yet, so getting the internet was quite a tasking challenging.
I found some great local grocery stores that sell organic food like: Ametller origen and Veritas, s, just to name a couple. What you will find very hard to get here is Wild Salmon. The seafood is also very different in taste than back home. The fish/ has more of an oily/fatty taste, not including a lot of salty fish like anchovies, and Bacalao.
Besides the seafood, and chicken, there is a lot of consumption of rabbit, pork, beef, and LOT'S AND LOT'S OF JAMON (that's Ham for non Spanish speakers). Its all about the cured meats here. I've never seen so much cured meats in my life!!!
Alright enough about the food.....let's get to the next challenge, Daycare/nanny. There is a great app called Sitly , where you can find babysitters, and nanny's (the largest babysitter site in Spain). It was a huge help, and helped us get a nanny for our twins within a week.
This is an international school that has a great program, and we felt between the languages, activities, and staff our kids would benefit so much!
The healthcare is SUPER CHEAP, like really cheap-like ALMOST FREE!! We are with Sanitas group, which is similar to Blue Cross, or Harvard Vanguard back home. No co-payments, and the prescriptions are cheap.
Finding a gym/sporting club to join was pretty easy, and after a few visits we decided to go with Metropolitan think Equinox gym back in the states.
Now that we have the internet, food, school, nanny, healthcare, and gym settled, we are excited to start our travels.
